Chopta Tungnath Chandrashila trek a.k.a Chopta trek is one of the easiest treks in uttarakhand and a great way to feast your eyes with the beautiful Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi (7,817 meters), Trishul (7,120 meters), Kedarnath (6,831 meters), Bandarpunch (6,316 meters) and Chaukhamba (7,138 meters).

A 360 degree view of layered ranges of Mighty Himalaya at the top of Chandrashila Peak will whisper to you, not to descend ever.

Enroute this trek, shortly before chandrashila top, you will find the highest temple of God shiva in the world, called Tungnath temple and is also one of the Panch Kedars.

Chopta Chandrashila peak trek can be clubbed with a night camping at Deoriatal or Devariya tal, which is a degrading but still beautiful Himalayan lake at an altitude of 2,438 meters surrounded in lush green forest and one should not miss the chance to do camping beside the lake. But you will not find peace here as there will be many people chattering which is true for many Himalayan treks these days.

Be a responsible human being and do not pollute the nature any more than we have already done. If we continue this ignorance, this legacy will be lost to our children.

Ques / Ans

How fit do I need to be ?

Anyone in reasonably good health can join our treks. Oxygen level drops as we go up higher in the mountain, Some of our easy treks have no required level of fitness. Our treks range in their difficulty levels and recommended fitness. Often more important than one’s fitness is their determination and will power to finish the trek. Control your mind or it will control you. Expedition/peak climbing requires more fitness, as they require days and days in cold weather at extreme altitudes.

What do I need to carry for the trek ?

If you are trekking with us, you just need to carry your clothing, camera and other essentials. You may bring a trekking pole to help you on the trail and a binocular to enjoy the beauties of nature closely. We will carry all of the camping, technical and medical equipment and the cost of it is included in the package price. Keep your backpack as light as possible with essentials only. You are not here for luxury but to enjoy the nature and find yourself. For a customized trek package, this will depend on what you have asked for.

What kind of facilities should I expect on a trek ?

Comfortable stay will be provided in a Lodge or a tent with good quality sleeping bags and mattresses. A tent will be shared by 2 or 3 depending on size of the team. No electricity but Solar lamps or other lighting arrangements will be made while dining. There will be a separate dining tent, a kitchen tent and atoilet tent. For smaller groups however, we carry dining-cum-kitchen tents. Toilet will be dry with in a pit dug in mud, and covered with a tent. Water source will be a river or a stream, purified with iodine or chlorine drops. Cooking utensils will be carried by us including plates and spoons. You may choose to bring your cup, plate and spoons though. Food will be cooked and served hot by our cooking team, who will accompany you throughout the trek. Our guides will walk along and take you safely to the next campsite. Our trek leader will lead the team of entire trekkers and staffs, and will see through the entire running of the trek right from your comfort, to guidance, to safety, to staff management, trek planning to organizational goals.

What kind of food should I expect on a Camping Trek ?

Rich quality nutritional food will be provided which are best suited for high altitudes. >Breakfast - Oats porridge, milk cornflakes, chapatti with vegetable, Tea/Coffee, etc. >Lunch - Dal Rice/ Rajma Rice with pickle, papad, salad and chutney, etc. Sometimes a packed lunch to cover long distance on a given day of the trek. >Snacks - Fried noodles, pop corn, pakoda with Tea, etc. >Pre Dinner - Veg Soup or something similar. >Dinner - Expect a similar menu as Lunch with roti, sabji and sweet dish - little variety each day.

Can I charge my mobile phone or camera batteries on trek ?

Charging facility is available only on First and Last Day at Base Camp. In between, there is no electricity on the trail, So bring a light-weight power bank or solar charger with you. The solar chargers carried by our staffs are to help them cook at night and for dining purpose only.

What happens if I get hurt or sick on the trail ?

Our Trek Leaders / Guides carry a comprehensive medical kit for emergencies on a trek. It is recommended to bring a personal medical kit, especially if you take specific medication. For a personal medical kit, we recommend antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, headache pills, diarrhea treatment, re-hydration salts and things for blister care. And if the case is severe, we will bring you back to the base camp immediately.

Can I drink alcohol on a trek ?

Drinking alcohol is not advisable on a High Altitude Trek. Alcohol dehydrates our body and at high altitude, dehydration may become a serious cause for Altitude Sickness. Every step on the trail matters, And if you are not in your senses, you might get hurt. For your safety, we do not allow having alcohol while gaining altitude. And even if you do in a permitted safe zone while descending,be careful otherwise it may the last drink you had and please bring empty bottles back from the trail.

Is smoking allowed on treks ?

Do not underestimate effects of smoking on your lungs, more so at high altitude where oxygen level is increasingly dropping as we move up. It will decrease you lung's capacity to hold more oxygen. Smoking is not advisable and a fit trekker does not smoke. However, you can do so, but not at the expense of other people's comfort.

DO’S AND DON’TS ON A TREK

Alcohols or any other intoxicating products “STRICTLY PROHIBHITED” during the trek. Always pay heed to the trek guides or instructors. Try not to leave the group under any circumstances. Avoid trekking during the nights as it is extremely dangerous. Avoid using earphones as that might hinder your hearing. Do not participate or encourage littering of the places in any form. While visiting the local villages and tourist sites, obey the local guidelines and instructions. Do not harm or interrupt the local sentiments of the places.
IMPORTANT:
Your safety is of paramount concern while travelling with TRAIL THE TREK that your leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Since adventure entails travelling in remote mountainous regions, we cannot guarantee that we will not deviate from it. Weather conditions, health condition of a group member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. The leader will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if required.
